Like the original myth, the plot centers around someone who forces assistance and protection, with numerous characters sharing the same names and roles. Unlike the original plot, which was set in a fanciful version of ancient China, the game is set 150 years in the future after a worldwide war, with only fragments of humanity remaining, along with the still operating war machines left over from the conflict. The plot is a reimagining of Wu Cheng’en’s work Journey to the West. On October 25, 2013, a premium edition with all DLC material was published for Microsoft Windows and Sony Playstation 3. It was released in North America, Australia, Japan, and Europe on October 5, October 7, and October 8, 2010, for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, respectively.
